In its latest two birds with one stone move, Pragmatic Play has inked separate multi-vertical agreements for its Slots, Live Casino and Virtual Sports portfolios on two different continents with two sports betting operators, Hollywoodbets and Smashup, for the UK and Ireland markets and Brazil iGaming space, respectively.

The tie-up with Hollywoodbets builds on the firm’s already established relationship, having agreed a deal earlier this year to supply content for the operator’s South Africa home base. After that successful collaboration, the pair decided to do the same for the operator’s customers in these two important regions.

“we have found an ideal partner to enhance our existing portfolio of games”

Now, players in both the United Kingdom and Ireland will be able to experience Pragmatic Play’s entire portfolio of Slots comprising 250-plus titles, such as the recently released Gorilla Mayhem, the popular fishing-inspired Big Splash and Gates of Olympus,  the Greek Mythology-themed video slot that has won the provider multiple Game of the Year awards.

Also included in the agreement is a comprehensive selection of land-based casino classics such as blackjack and roulette, along with the provider’s flourishing Live Casino vertical, with the innovative Boom City, which was launched in late July and plays via a custom-built set, as well as Sweet Bonanza Candyland, the gameshow-inspired live dealer version of the wildly successful Sweet Bonanza candy-themed slot, and Mega Wheel, inspired by the popular Money Wheel and Big 6 concepts from land-based casinos.

Completing the multi-product offering is a range of industry-sought Virtual Sports products, each with market-leading real-time 3D graphics.

What They’re Saying:

“Hollywoodbets strives to offer our customers premium entertainment and thrilling experiences and, in Pragmatic Play, we have found an ideal partner to enhance our existing portfolio of games,” read a statement from Dermot O’Connell, Hollywoodbets Betting Operations Manager.

The agreement includes the same popular products made available to the operator‘s customers, providing important cross-selling sports betting opportunities

Regarding the new alliance, Justin Wong, Chief Operating Officer for Smashup, said they are “delighted to have such a “rich collection” of new content to wow their players with. The COO goes on to say that Pragmatic Play’s titles are “well-loved” across Brazil and that having them in their games lobby “will only strengthen the quality” they have to offer.

“We’re excited to be working with them and we can’t wait to get the games live.”

LatAm Proficiency:

The multi-product content provider has made significant gains in its goal of becoming the region’s leading iGaming supplier, having recently inked a series of commercial deals including the most recent with sports betting and online casino services provider, InstaBet, for the Brazil and Mexico markets, as well as BNR Bet and Weebet in Brazil, among many others. Going forward, MiCasino.com’s customers will find a significantly expanded games lobby, with the addition of player-favorite Slots such as the Egyptian-themed Fortune of Giza, the seriously twisted Zombie Carnival, and Gates of Olympus, which has won the provider multiple Game of the Year awards.

Lastly, customers will be able to enjoy the provider’s Virtual Sports offering which will allow them to place bets on exciting 3D virtual representations of sporting events, filling in the void between real events.

Landing in the operator’s games lobby will be Force 1, a version on formula one delivering wheel-to-wheel motorsport action, Penalty Shootout, where realistic players battle it out, and horse racing in Steeplechase, with new race every 2 minutes over a 5-furlong track at the Douglas Downs racecourse.

Rank Group returns an annual profit despite experiencing a ‘challenging’ year_1

In the United Kingdom and prominent land-based and online gaming operator Rank Group has announced that it recorded an underlying net profit of £40.4 million ($47.6 million) for the twelve months to the end of June despite facing ‘challenging’ market conditions.

The London-listed firm behind 35 Grosvenor-branded casinos used an official Thursday filing (pdf) to state that the figure was ‘in line’ with the £40 million ($47.2 million) prediction it published in June and was considerably better than the £82.4 million ($97.3 million) deficit it chalked up for the previous twelve-month period. The firm also revealed that all of this came as its associated net gaming revenues improved by 98% year-on-year to £644 million ($760.7 million) to give it net cash of £19.1 million ($22.5 million).

Recent reconsideration:

Rank Group declared that it had been forced to reset its full-year operating profit guidance after its Grosvenor-branded chain of casinos were ‘adversely impacted by difficult trading conditions’ during the latter half of the reporting period. It moreover asserted that this woe was most pronounced at its nine London properties, which accounted for 38% of its aggregated annual net revenues, as a dearth in overseas visitors led to ‘very weak customer volumes’ that only started to improve ‘in the final few weeks of the year.’

Utility unease:

Maidenhead-headquartered Rank Group noted that its venues were furthermore negatively hit by a rise of almost 77% in energy costs when compared with the pre-pandemic 2019 financial year to about £23 million ($27.1 million). The operator went on to proclaim that this figure for the upcoming twelve months is now expected to double to reach approximately £46 million ($54.3 million) ‘based on current market prices’ although it has a ‘strong cash position’ despite having spent £6.2 million ($7.3 million) on new casino products and £5.3 million ($6.2 million) on refurbishing its Grosvenor-branded estate.

Bingo belief:

Rank Group is additionally responsible for the Mecca Bingo-branded chain of bingo halls and contended that this estate is ‘being reshaped to return to profitability’ after seven of its venues were recently shuttered. The operator went on to state that this subordinate’s digital arm has been ‘successfully migrated to the Ride platform’ and helped its iGaming net revenues for the twelve months to the end of June swell by 4% year-on-year with a 178% boost in active cross-channel customers.

Vigorous vigilance:

John O’Reilly serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Rank Group and he used the filing to decree that his company is continuing to take ‘actions to drive further efficiencies in the venues businesses’ and has recently seen ‘strong revenue growth’ from properties that have ‘benefitted from our accelerated capital investment program’. Regarding his firm’s digital businesses and the experienced executive stated that performance is continuing to improve ‘against a difficult market backdrop’ with the transfer to the proprietary Ride platform ‘supporting revenue growth and a strong improvement to operating margins.’

Read a statement from O’Reilly…

It was a challenging year for our United Kingdom venues businesses with unexpectedly softer trading across the Grosvenor estate in the second half of the year. Whilst we have been seeing improvements in London in recent weeks, the trading environment across the United Kingdom is likely to remain difficult in the months ahead with inflationary pressures squeezing consumer discretionary expenditure and cost increases, particularly in energy prices, putting pressure on profit margins.”

Delaware DOJ requests DFS operators stop services within the state

It has been some time since a state in the US has decided to rule against daily fantasy sports contests. For a while, it seemed that almost every week a different state was coming forward to declare the activity an illegal one. Now, the Delaware Department of Justice has made the move to ask operators to stop offering their real-money contests within the state. Legislators have yet to amend laws that will authorize the activity to take place.

This past Friday, the DOJ of Delaware announced that letters had been sent to operators of real money DFS gaming to inform the companies that the contests are not permitted based on current laws of the state. This included FanDuel, DraftKings and Yahoo.

State regulators were reportedly notified in March that the DFS contests were considered illegal gambling as they are an activity of chance rather than one of skill based on the dominant factor involved in the outcome of the real-money contests. The law in Delaware prohibits all gambling activity expect the lotteries that are under state control. The DOJ has stated that DFS gaming is considered an activity that the state does not have control over.

The argument that DFS contests involve chance or skill is the main reasoning behind states either allowing the activity or deeming the activity illegal. The DOJ of Delaware has stated that they feel chance is the dominant factor. Even though the contestants are choosing individual athletes, the contestant does not have a role in how the players actually perform. The DOJ feels that most skilled contestants may lose while less skilled contestants could win due to the fact that the athlete is human and the behavior of humans is unpredictable.

Regulators told operators of the position noted by the DOJ on the subject but the DOJ did not take any further action once they made their position known. According to CalvinAyre, certain online fantasy sports companies stated that the state was going to be amending their laws soon to allow DFS contests to take place legally. Yet the DOJ has stated that the General Assembly finished their latest session on the 30th of June and there was no action taken on the activity.

Delaware DOJ requests DFS operators stop services within the state

As for now, the Department of Justice in Delaware will be enforcing the law and players will not be able to take part in real-money DFS contests. However, residents of the state will be allowed to enjoy DFS gaming contests that do not require an entry fee.

None of the companies contacted by the DOJ have responded as of yet to the request for operations to cease within the state. In the past, FanDuel as well as DraftKings have complied to requests for a cease in service in the hopes that regulation will be put in place in the individual state so gaming can commence once again.

Scientific Games Corporation appoints Ashley Sandyford-Sykes

After establishing its SG Digital entity last month, American gaming machine innovator Scientific Games Corporation has now announced the hiring of experienced industry executive Ashley Sandyford-Sykes (pictured) to serve as the new digital gaming and sportsbetting technology subsidiary’s Senior Vice-President.

Scientific Games Corporation appoints Ashley Sandyford-Sykes

Las Vegas-based Scientific Games Corporation declared that Sandyford-Sykes has previously given talks on the development of slot content and will officially join its ranks from May 1 to lead the nine studios within its SG Digital subordinate, which have already been responsible for a number of popular online games including Foxin’ Wins, Wild Play Superbet and Rainbow Riches.

Scientific Games Corporation stated that Sandyford-Sykes is to work from its offices in the Chiswick neighborhood of London and will join an experienced SG Digital leadership team that already includes Keith O’Loughlin, the former Sportsbook Director and Chief Product Officer for Ladbrokes, alongside a previous Vice-President for Oracle, Chris Armes.

“We’ve formed an extremely powerful team of technology and product leaders who are moving quickly with a dual focus,” read a Tuesday statement (pdf) from Matt Davey, Group Chief Executive for SG Digital. “First, maturing our European Union-centric development and product capabilities to better support our larger United Kingdom and European Union customer base and, second, establishing new capabilities in North America to meet the growing demand for our gaming products and be prepared for sportsbook expansion should the United States become a newly regulated market.”

Davey, the former Chief Executive Officer for NYX Gaming Group Limited, proclaimed that the executive team at SG Digital is ‘filled with a powerful sense of what we need to do’ in order to ‘seize the opportunity in front of us’ before pronouncing that he is looking forward to leading ‘a division of outstanding product and technology talent’.

Alongside the hiring of Sandyford-Sykes, Scientific Games Corporation detailed that it has given its current United Kingdom Legal Director, Sue Dawson, the additional role of SG Digital Deputy General Counsel while naming Ryan Ripley to serve as the subsidiary’s Interim Chief Financial Officer.

Santa takes over fishing duties in new online slot Christmas Big Bass Bonanza from partners Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic Play

Pragmatic Play has launched the seasonal remake of Reel Kingdom’s popular fishing-themed slot, having launched Christmas Big Bass Bonanza as a festive installment to the popular series.

Powered by Pragmatic, the high volatility 5-reel, 3-row video slot takes players on a decidedly chillier adventure, with ice-capped icons and a smiling Santa switching out for the familiar fisherman they have grown accustomed to seeing has a max win of 2,100x the stake.

“a festive take on one of our most popular games collections”

This festive iteration of the player-favorite can be engaged on any device and has an RTP of 96.71 percent, and with the exception of the Christmas touches, is basically the same as the original, which was released on December 14, 2020.

Symbols and game play:

The main goal here is for players to help the Wild Santa reel in as many fish symbols as possible during extra spins, which sees them collect all of their values. However, most of the time wins happen when symbols that match line up from the left to right on adjacent reels from the first reel. Game symbols include snow-capped 10-A card icons as low pays, while fish tiles, tackle boxes with red Christmas bows, sleighs, fishing rods, and bobbers are premiums. Landing five high pays across the game grid pays between 20 and 200 times the state.

In the base game, when a player lands 3, 4, or 5 Scatter symbols, the Extra Game round is triggered, awarding them with 10, 15, or 20 extra spins, respectively. While in Extra Spins, fish symbols land with random money values attached and if they should appear at the same time as the Santa Wild symbol, the bearded one collects them for the player.

Meanwhile, for every fourth Wild symbol that is collected the feature is retriggered, which awards 10 more extra spins and doubles the multiplier value for collection of money symbols during the first retrigger. It then triples it for the second retrigger and multiplies it by 10x for the third retrigger.

New life:

Commenting on the new online slot, Julian Jarvis, Chief Executive Officer for Pragmatic Play, used a company news release to say…

“With Christmas and the holidays just around the corner, we thought our players deserved to experience a festive take on one of our most popular games collections.

“Breathing new life into a series that has become a staple of our offering has been a truly invigorating experience, and we look forward to seeing how our audiences respond to this festive installment.”

Recent releases & coming soon:

Christmas Big Bass Bonanza follows recent releases Santa’s Wonderland, the latest in the John Hunter series, the Egyptian-themed Book of Fallen, and what is sure to be a hit Super X, each of which joins Pragmatic Play’s award-winning portfolio of 200-plus HTML5 titles.

Fans can expect the provider’s next hit, Smugglers Cove, to drop on December 9th.
